The catalan vocalist Xavier Casellas releases “Unguarded Smiles”, his new musical project in which he does not only sing but also writes lyrics to music written by distinguished composers. Being accompanied by the very best of the jazz view, Casellas invites us to go deeper into a proposal of vocal jazz inspired from the greatest tradition without forgetting all the essential elements to be undoubtedly modern.

The large instrumental formations have proven to be a very effective vehicle in the creation of sonorities and the engendering of small treasures where the best music is the main character. The union of the Girona Jazz Project Big Band and the pianist and composer Guillermo Klein on this album is not an exception. ‘El Camino’ is an album where it is not difficult to find the best current jazz mixed with the desire to visit new realms full of fascinating atmospheres and sonorous passages of an enormous originality. The unquestionable quality of the orchestra is enlarged on this album with compositions by Klein, who is one of the musicians that, without doubt, have renewed the international jazz panorama of the past few years.Listen

“Jazz Ateu” is the new album by the pianist Ismael Dueñas. At the head of a trio that includes Joan Motera on double bass and Òscar Domènech on drums, Dueñas offers a unique and surprising project through eight songs of his own composition and two versions of others, one of a song of the Conxita and another of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The predominant aesthetic of the jazz leaves room on this album for other musical forms which suggest journeys that mix sounds from various geographical origins, from popular music to songs.

The group EnVers introduces “Com la veu de l’aigua”, their first album, which is a monographic work of songs whose lyrics are poems by Màrius Torres. An effective and refined poetry illuminates nine songs composed without haste that aim, above all, to move the listener. EnVers composes music full of details, which is intimate, accurate and sweet, having a certain Mediterranean air, and electric brush strokes that contribute to round off each song.

This is a curious proposal from the Lleida group led by the singer and guitarist Clara Viñals. This is their first record, which is edited on a vinyl, with five songs that move in evidently the pop fields without forgetting the best reminiscences of folk. Clara’s delicate voice and an instrument line-up which includes electric and acoustic guitars as well as a drum, bass and synthesizers that add a sometimes experimental air to the theme, contribute to the band’s achievement of a truly personal and enchanting sound.

Director, composer and arranger Publio Delgado presents "Lord Jim Suite", an interesting and ambitious proposal inspired by one of the novels of reference of the writer Joseph Conrad. To carry Lord Jim into jazz territory, Delgado has gathered an ensemble which welcomes many of the best instrumentalists from the Catalan jazz scene. The end product does not cease to surprise through its quality and originality and the complicated exercise of uniting the old and indispensable novel and Afro-American music which is masterly resolved in this work.
